The Chinese Section of the Faculty of Education has offered two types of tutorial programmes through electronic mail and LearningSpace. The study is on the awareness of university students on elements of effective communication. These include role of writers and readers, tenor, communication rules, aims, objectives, text genres, text structure, media, messages, situation, environments and gatekeepers. It is found that university students are more aware of the elements of effective communication when they use LearningSpace than e-mail. On the whole, they pay less attention to aims, gatekeepers, tenor, media and text structure in communicative writing. 香港大學教育學院中文組開設了兩門虛擬導修課，包括電子郵件和網路學習社群討論。本文主要報告大學生在導修課的有效傳意能力識覺程度。有研究顯示：要達到有效傳意，必須要具備下列的能力，包括：作者身份、讀者身份、傳意語調、傳意契約、傳意目的、傳意目標、傳意文類、傳意結構、傳意媒介、傳意訊息、傳意場合、傳意環境以及把關人等十三項傳意原素。初步研究發現，大學生在學習社群中的傳意識覺程度比較電子郵件中高；而他們對傳意目標、把關人、傳意語調、傳意媒介和傳意結構的識覺程度偏低。
